WebCystectomy. A cystectomy is the full or partial removal of your bladder. Surgeons most often recommend it to treat bladder cancer. If they remove your entire bladder, they’ll create a new way for urine to leave your body. Risks include bleeding, infection and sexual side effects. Recovery may take several weeks to months.
