However, it is POSSIBLE that, since the reostat still provides some resistance even at it's brightest setting, that doing so might shorten the life of the dash lights. But, I would doubt that it would cause a problem.

The sensor appears to me to be primarily involved with the Twilight Sentinel which I don't use so why not just remove it and splice wires together?
